The team of observers consisted of two doctoral students in the Human Development and Social Policy program at Northwestern University, one doctoral student from the university’s Department of Sociology, and one research assistant who had a master’s degree in counseling psychology.
In a sense, we are providing an in-depth site report. Most site visits occur over one or two days; our visits took place twice weekly over the course of an entire academic year. So we have an extensive database to draw from and can meaningfully analyze trends over time. We systematically review the center’s efforts in each domain, pointing out strengths as well as weaknesses. What is most striking about Midwest is that it has pockets of excellence, most of which revolve around the efforts of one staff member, Manuel.
